Wonder Wheel
Pyromania

Ginny’s son Richie’s pyromania is more or less treated as a side story. Something of this significance, however, cannot be treated quite so lightly by the writer (Woody Allen), especially since the kid did not limit his activities to the outdoors. He could have, for instance, caused dozens – if not hundreds – of deaths by the fire he started at the psychologist’s office. Also, more generally, it is just impossible to imagine anyone being so lucky to engage in as many acts of arson and not cause dozens of deaths within only a few days. It, furthermore, strains credulity for the school authorities to have a problem of this magnitude on their hands yet take no major action beyond meeting with the parents – essentially treating it no differently from truancy.
